Laura Hughes

The objective of this installation in the Gray Box is to make the dividing wall invisible. Using phosphorescent pigment and light projections, the space beyond the wall is captured at different times of day and imprinted onto the wall. The wall’s structure as an architectural barrier will disappear to the eye as it renegotiates the consequence of what is depicted versus knowledge of the actual conditions of the space.
About Laura Hughes:
Laura Hughes is a Portland-based artist creating site-specific installations that investigate how light, form and space surround and shape one another in our perception. Often tracing the periphery of architectural spaces, Hughes uses light, paint, and reflective surfaces to amplify and enhance fleeting instances of illumination that are usually overlooked. This prompts a reconsideration of how our presence in space activates the conditions of seeing.
