Next week the White Box will host Lisa Radon, Laura Hughes, Wayne Bund, Stephanie Simek, Michael Reinsch and Sean Joseph Patrick Carney as they use the White Box to explore process, develop new relationships with old concepts, and showcase new and experimental works. Participation and dialogue are encouraged as these portland-based artists invite inquiriry into their process and experimention. To encourage pop-up-like improvisation, each artist will get one day to occupy the White Box and present performances, talks, re-contextualized work, and workshops.

Laura Hughes –Workshop/Presentation
Wednesday, August 22, 2012 | 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Laura Hughes presents a workshop based around her recent explorations of light and abstraction. She is currently experimenting with different phosphorescent materials and participants will come to hear her speak about this process and some of her influences/inspiration. Visitors will also get a chance to get hands-on and experiment with some of her materials, creating light-abstracting sculptures that hang from the Gray Box ceiling.
Stephanie Simek- Performance and Q&A
Thursday, August 23, 2012 | 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Simek will install and perform a new sound experiment using hand-written graphite text as a conductor for an improvised improvised instrument that explores the space of the White Box.
Wayne Bund – Super Showcase | A Feyonce Retrospective, 2009 – 2012
Friday, August 24, 2012 | 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.

In this fabulous one day, no night stay at the White Box, Wayne Bund presents Feyonce fierceness. Visit during the afternoon of Friday, August 24 to view over three years of photographs, videos, and print ephemera, or attend an evening performance at 7:00 p.m. to see Feyonce challenge pop culture, radical feminism, and drag lineage.
Michael Reinsch & Sean Joseph Patrick Carney – Performance Anxiety
Saturday, August 25, 2012 | 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Michael Reinsch and Sean Joseph Patrick Carney are both Portland-based visual artists working with performance, comedy, and tragedy in various contexts.
White Box, Reinsch, and Carney will be hosting an evening screening of performance documentation and a discussion with the audience around themes of abjection, masochism, and black humor.
Additional conversation will focus on MTV’s Jackass and its impact on performance art that employs physical comedy.
Reinsch will screen video documentation of a work entitled “Birthday Bash.”
Carney will screen video documentation of a work entitled “AbJackass.”
