Using video installation as a poetic platform, Heffernan’s work navigates temporal planes and abstracted origins of human enactments. Digital ground provides the foundation for intimate emotional performances. Text serves as image, intent, and ineffable presence. Fields of color, space, and place, all converge to submerge mute presentations of the self.

Daniel Heffernan is a multimedia artist and designer for theater and live performance whose work has been exhibited throughout the United States and in Europe. Design credits include Mindgame at the Soho Playhouse, Pericles at the Utah Shakespeare Festival, This Wonderful Life at the Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany, NY and The Glass House at the Clurman Theater (Innovative Theater Award nominee for Design). Heffernan has received numerous grants including the Creative Links grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. He received his master of fine arts from New York University and his undergradate degree in International Relations from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Heffernan is currently curating an experimental film series along with filmmaker Darrell Wilson that will be exhibited this spring at Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.

Heffernan teaches film making at New York University. He lives and works in New York City.

Hearn’s work explores social acceptance within a region’s society and how the history of that region influences its current culture. Referencing family photos, memory, literature, and found imagery, he frames his inquiry by representing the experience of growing up in Mississippi. In response to the quote by William Faulkner, “To understand the world you must first understand a place like Mississippi,” Hearn’s inquiry lies within the desire to understand heritage and to examine current society.

Micah Hearn was born and raised in Laurel, Mississippi. He currently lives in Portland, Oregon where he earned his bachelor of fine arts degree from Pacific Northwest College of Art in 2012.
